As much as I would like to eat only healthy food, cake and cookies will always be my little weakness. But in order to keep in shape I try to follow a balanced diet. This is why I started to write about the benefits of blueberries.
Blueberries are an ideal choice for dessert or when you have food cravings because they have only 84 kcal per cup and are very rich in vitamin C (24% of your daily dose per cup). The benefits are quite substantial: blueberries strengthen your bones and lower your blood pressure, therefore lowering the chance of a heart attack. Studies have proven that the potassium, folate and vitamins contained in blueberries reduce the chance of heart disease by 32% for middle-aged women.
Furthermore, these small wonder-fruits play an important part in cancer prevention.
Blueberries can also help you in the fight against wrinkles because collagen relies heavily on vitamin C, a substance that has been proven to protect the skin against sun damage, pollution and smoke due to its anti-oxidant function.
I advise you to supplement your breakfast with blueberries or even have them as a snack in between meals.
Here is a simple recipe for blueberry smoothies that I love to have in the morning.
1 frozen banana
1 cup blueberries
2 tbs Greek yogurt
1 tbs honey
1/2 cup water
Add them in the blender and mix them together
Best if served fresh
